I don't believe that it's going to be the end of the world. We've had plenty of things that like this that have happened, even worse, and this place is still standing. But usually when something does happen there's a reason for it.

Plus... getting on the boat is probably just as dangerous as staying in the City is, and the City at least is grounded. People need someone to look after them.
