[There's not all that much on the counter, but he keeps on soaking it up until he's sure there isn't a drop left.]

[Larry drinks down his portion. Where is this gonna go? Is he going to be asked to surrender his part? Not after that. He'll do a lotta things, but it's the principle of the matter. They bled for those diamonds, each with their own reasons.]

[Where things stand right now? Freddy doesn't know. He rubs the back of his neck which turns into a rub through his own floppy hair followed by a heavy huff.]

[Larry wants to ask why, but really though, the answer is Freddy Newendyke is a cop. What more can be said of that?]

[Until he thought about how it would make a big of an elephant in the room.]

No, I'm glad you got'em. [He nods, that's not up for debate cause they bled for them, but Freddy himself, he can't touch them.] But I can't touch'em Larry. You know that right?

No one'd know if you did. [Not if he didn't want em too. Or something. It shouldn't mean as much to him as it does right now. Do the cops know how good of a man they got at their disposal? Not even in the face of death, fucking coming to pieces in the back seat of a car, committing murder for their cause...how good are the perks?]

[When Larry asks that question the kid starts thinking maybe that's not the right thing to do not for the cops but for the old man who stayed by his side for so long. People died over those diamonds, the fucking diamonds are what put this rat on the case, and this rat is the reason one of Larry's closest friends is dead. Fuck.]

[Except crooks who aim to keep dirty cops on their side permanently. He shakes his head.]

Why can't it be part of the cover up? [Already he's shaking his head and a hand with it to veto that.]

[The old man turns away to freshen his glass of Jose Cuervo.]
