[That's what you get for posting right at sunset, Newendyke. Not long after there's a tawny sandy kind of orange wolf (no regrets) snuffling through town.]

[Freddy hasn't been out long. Normally he'd like to be in his bipedal form but something about the full moon rising has made going quadruped irresistible. He's lumbering out from a shadow, a large orange tawny colored wolf who's actually on the small side for a shifter...but still big in general.]

[Compared to the Pomeranian she's walking - well, he's prancing - anything is going to be big. That same standard could be applied to Claire herself, especially given the flats she's wearing and the fact that her current wardrobe choice makes her look twice as small as she might otherwise. Not exactly blind to the current state of the City, she's aware but not overly aware. More concerned for her dog than anything else. After all, how concerned can you possibly be when even a zombie bite isn't going to do anything and might actually cure zombism in the undead biter?

Still, she peers into the shadows as well as she can while trying to keep a steady pace, and it's not until the tawny wolf has made his way completely into the spill of streetlight that Claire stops and scoops Mr. Muggles up in the same motion. Her mouth is open and moving before she realizes it.]

Oh my god.

[Not that it's a helpful motion, but it's the first thing that comes to mind.]

[Haaaaaaaay he knows you. Freddy tilts his head at Claire. Why the hell does she look distressed? Well duh, Newendyke, it's because you're super cool. Come on be nice, she's a lady. His ears go down a little bit as his tail wags at a lower height, cautious but willing to meet and greet. It's that puff ball he's not too sure about, looks like a vicious monster from here.]

[Not that she wouldn't typically argue her dog's status as a vicious beast, but come on, Freddy. Look at you. Even for a little wolf, you are quite large, sir. She isn't going to extend her hand and scratch your ears just like that.]

I'm warning you, eating me is kind of impossible. And I just had a lot of Mexican food, so I probably don't taste that great.

[Mexican.

Ears up again.

She said Mexican.

More wagging.

Mexican tastes delicious. The food, not the people, although by all technicality if he tried to eat her for the Mexican food in her belly then he'd call her delicious. But he's not going to eat a Claire. He'll walk up to her though kind of casually.]

[Maybe that was the wrong thing to point out, but he at least isn't coming off like he's going to start chewing on one of her legs. Still, the hand she extends is tentative, and rather than rubbing his ears immediately, Claire just sets her palm down on the top of his head and lets it rest there, testing the waters. She still hasn't put her own dog down, but there's a certain degree of trust that needs to be established before she's just going to offer up potential hors d'oeuvre.]

You can't talk, can you?

[Roooooooo.

That's the extent of his speech in this form. That hand feels nice though and he's rubbing under it as if to get her to pet him.]

[Obviously this is a person, and normally she might feel stranger about giving a stranger a scratch behind the ears, but once your neighbor has been turned into a tiny, screaming fox, there isn't much to find weird about a situation like this. So Claire gives the wolf a scratch behind the ears, and it's as much a way of giving in as it is a means of establishing some ground.

No biting.

And she's going to put the Pomeranian down, now.]

[Oh that feels good. It feels so good he loves you already, Claire. Once the pomeranian is on the ground Freddy stands up on his hind legs as dogs who want to reach your face often do. Too bad he's bigger than her but she is Claire Bennet, she can handle it.]

[She can handle it, though not without a heavy 'oof' to accompany his weight. Unsure whether to laugh or push him down - what if this is someone that she doesn't like trying to catch her unawares? - Claire pushes her palms into his sides, feeling ribs and scratchy fur.]

You're gonna knock me over.

[Lick lick lick. He's got marks on his face from having been bit there but the wound is old, scabbed over, he's a big healthy dog.

Oh good you're not mad at me still.

Freddy's human thoughts are intersecting with his animalistic behavior.]

[Face scrunched up, eyes screwed shut, it would take one of those Buckingham Palace guards' levels of dedication not to at least crack a smile. Which she does, and which Mr. Muggles decides is Unacceptable, enough that he shimmies his way up her leg as far as he can in order to bark and whine.]

Okay, okay, that's enough. Sit down, sit down.

[Thump. Dog down to sit. Watch out Muggles he might step on you. Now Freddy just looks up at her with his caramel green eyes. Wolves don't have funny eyes like that bro--hey little guy. You're yappy. Freddy reaches down to pick Muggles up in his mouth only to set him back down half a foot from Claire.]

[Claire steps forward when Freddy makes to pick up her dog between his teeth but doesn't have to resort to any sort of screaming when it doesn't end in bloodshed. He's still close enough - and connected to her by way of thin leash - that she doesn't have to worry about anything other than hurt feelings later. As for the this dog-wolf hybrid, Claire's in no rush to talk to him like he might understand her. Having been down this road before, she's aware of how stupid people look when they're talking to animals that can't actually talk back.

Still, she has to ask -]

What are you doing out here anyway?

[What kind of question is that? Freddy makes a sound that comes close to being a wwooowwrrowr. Just hanging around, dude. What's Claire doing out here, he wonders, trying to convey the question with a headtilt and a pawing...paw.]

[There is a stare down going on right now.]

Sorry, I don't speak Giant Surprise Dog.

[Howwwrrf!

Come on Claire when else have you seen a wolf with caramel green eyes.]

[Well, she can't put her finger on who this is exactly, but there's no denying they obviously know each other, and there is something familiar.]

This is going to be really embarrassing when I figure out you're actually Matt Damon, isn't it?

[Huff. Who the fuck's that? He has eyebrows to quirk so he's quirking them. Okay nevermind that Freddy walks a circle around her.

Where you headed?]

[Why are you smelling me? It seems like a dumb question to ask of a dog, but it's there all the same. She takes a step along her destination's path: it's nowhere specific, but she did come out here for a walk.]

You wanna come along for a little while? [It's a rhetorical question, and it's a moment before she says anything else.] You know, you remind me of someone.

[Sure why not.

Somebody's gotta protest her and the little puff ball. He trots along at her pace but when she says he reminds her of someone his ears perk up and his tail wags more. Who?]
